Back in the fall, whispers surfaced of a recovery-based film festival coming to New York. Those whispers have turned into a reality. Partnering with several treatment centers, the non-profit organization Writers in Treatment (W.I.T.) is launching a FREE week-long event featuring films (both past and present) as well as actors, directors, producers and well-known professionals from the recovery community. From September 28, 2012 – October 4, 2012 the event will screen "an eclectic lineup of contemporary and classic films, documentaries and shorts from American and international, first-time filmmakers and industry veterans." The festival has thrown a wide net and is accepting submissions through July 31.
Robert J. Lindsey, President and CEO of NCADD recently opined, “For decades the film industry has used addiction to alcohol and drugs as an underlying or central theme in thousands of movies...it is time to use these films to raise awareness, understanding and support for recovery.
Well-said.
Mark your calendars and look for more info from us as we get closer to the festival.
